”Willy Ørskov is difficult to talk about. His sculptures bear no titles to guide our train of thought. They are not meant to evoke moods. They contain no aggression, and the dynamism seems to be born from within – not imposed from without.” Vagn Steen, Göteborgs Konsthall, 1964
As many as eleven sculptures by Willy Ørskov are offered here at the auction, giving us a broad view of his work. Ørskov is a minimalist to his fingertips, and the objects are just that: they exist solely as pure entities in a space, stripped of all pathos, intention, or meaning beyond the material itself. Ørskov himself fades into the background, the artist's ego erased, while the medium – the metal, the bronze, or the iron – is allowed to flow into form, since “form must be a path to understanding, not the result of it.” (Willy Ørskov: “Reading of Objects”, 1966)
