Yrsa Lundstrøm (f. Hansen) (b. København 1890, d. 1954)

Still life with flowers, 1917. Unsigned; on the reverse inscribed “Painted by professor Yrsa Lundstrøm, 1917”. Oil on canvas. 7×67 cm.

Provenance: Previously in the collection of Martha and Paul Gauguin.

Yrsa Lundstrøm prepares for the Raoyal Academy with Emilie Mundt and Marie Luplau and with Vilhelmine Bang. She is admitted to Academy's Art School for Women in 1909 and graduates in 1914. Among the fellow students at the Art School for Women are Ebba Carstensen and Kamma Thorn. In the years 1912–1922 she participates in several group exhibitions and a single solo exhibition, but when she marries Vilhelm Lundstrøm in 1923, she stops her work as a painter. However, she manages to make her mark as a talented, experimental young artist who receives good reviews. In 1920 she was exhibited at the Retrospective Exhibition of Women Artists.

It is extremely rare - due to her short career - that her works find their way to auction, but she is represented at the Fuglsang Art Museum.
