Daniel Ekegren

Pocket watch of 18k gold. Double-wheel duplex escapement, diamond endstone, split bimetallic balance. White enamel dial with black roman numerals and gold hands. Dial signed “Daniel Ekegren Kiöbenhavn”. Case made by L. Steinmetz (no. 332) in Copenhagen. Dust cap of gilt brass with the following inscription: “Daniel Ekegren, No. 32, Kiöbenhavn & Dobbelthjulsgang, 4 steenhuller og compensationsuro”. Winding and setting through the dust cap. Movement with the following inscription: “Daniel Ekegren, No. 32 & Kiöbenhavn”. Very rare and special movement - especially the stud holder and the shape of the bridges are noteworthy. This type of movement is mostly seen in Danish watches - the Swedish can be somewhat similar. Escape wheels of brass and steel. The watch measures 61.5 mm. 1930s.

Accompanied by an original box from Urban Jürgensens Sönner, Dronningens Tvergade 277. The watch may possibly have been sold there.

Daniel Ekegren (1795–1878) was apprenticed with his father in Landskrona, Sweden. In 1821 he became a master watchmaker in Copenhagen af having served as a journeyman in Urban Jürgensen's workshop. Litterature: Ingvordsen, Jens: Urmagere i Danmark før år 1900.
