Christine Swane (b. Kerteminde 1876, d. Farum 1960)
View over rooftops. Signed CSw. Oil on canvas. 65×57 cm.
In 1910, Christine Swane married the painter Sigurd Swane, and in 1911 they moved into a flat in Falkoner Allé 5 on Frederiksberg. Christine Swane takes over the flat after the couple's divorce in 1920, and she lives there until 1935.
From her flat she has a fine view of the busy life of the city, and from around 1930 she begins to paint several motifs of precisely the Frederiksberg, which surrounds her in the form of houses, gables and streets. “After all, Mrs Swane's painting is a kind of music in colours. They carry themselves as easily as notes that rise in the room – they develop from each other with the same logic as themes that alternate in a piece of music.” (Review by Sigurd Schulz in the newspaper Nationaltidende, 1934).
