Online auction: the philatelic highlights of the year

Rarely has a stamp auction at Bruun Rasmussen been as wide-ranging as the one set to take place on 3 November. We’ll be offering philatelic gems, international rarities and large collections alongside the sensational Baronissi Archive – the major philatelic scoop of the year.

Our annual auction, which is accompanied by a printed catalogue, promises to be the philatelic event of the autumn. We’ll be offering rare stamps and letters worthy of presentation to a wide and affluent Danish and international clientèle, and this year’s major catalogue auction will undoubtedly draw in philatelists and others with an interest in stamps and postal history alike. The auction features a wealth of attractive objects, rare variants, large and well-stocked collections and other special highlights.

The Baronissi Archive

The rarities just keep coming at the auction. A recently discovered trove of franked newspapers, sent from Naples to the Italian village of Baronissi, has resurfaced after more than 163 years of obscurity. The collection was owned by the Italian Luigi Rocco, who ran a small farm and vineyard in the village of Baronissi and was a regular subscriber to L’Omnibus, which he received by post. Consisting of more than 120 old and well-preserved newspapers from Naples, dated from January 1860 to March 1861, several of which are franked with extremely rare Savoy Cross and Trinacria stamps, the sensational Baronissi Archive, will be the highlight of the auction.

“These are international rarities of the highest order. Among the gems are no fewer than four specimens of the extremely rare Savoy Cross stamp with “double T”, and an unusual first edition of the Trinacria stamp, dated 6 November 1860. The unique collection is a sensational discovery.”

Lasse Nielsen Part 2

Last December, we offered a number of extremely rare stamps from Lasse Nielsen’s fantastic “Danish Proofs and Essays” collection, including the only known specimen in private ownership of the famous Ferslew’s Essay from 1850 – the first printed Danish “stamp”. We’re continuing now with the sale of the 2nd part of his collection of the earliest Danish stamp issues, along with their proofs and essays, including numerous complete platings of the bi-coloured "øre" stamps from 1875–1902.

More! More! More!

In addition to the above, the auction also contains a number of fine and unique consignments that will grace any collection. There will be rare Danish royal correspondence, colourful Chinese stamps, early Icelandic Christmas stamps and unique gold medals from stamp exhibitions at the upcoming auction, which will be held as an online auction on Sunday 3 November. There will be a preview at Paul Bergsøes Vej 20b in Glostrup in the week leading up to the auction.
