Greenlandic Rubies

For the first time ever, Greenlandic rubies will be up for auction. The rubies come from the Aappaluttoq mine south of Nuuk and are part of the impressive jewellery set "La Nina". Part of the proceeds from the sale will go to "The Polar Bear Foundation", which supports polar research on subjects such as the Greenlandic population and wildlife and how both are affected by climate change.

The rubies in the "La Nina" jewellery set were extracted a few years ago in the first test drilling by the mining company "Greenland Ruby" and have been mounted by a jeweller in Vancouver. The sale itself is interesting from a gemmological as well as social point of view, since this is the world's first Greenlandic rubies that economically benefits the Greenlandic people.

"La Nina" consists of a necklace and a pair of ear studs, decorated with numerous faceted rubies and sapphires in red and pink shades. The gems were originally discovered back in the 1960s by GEUS (Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland), where it was estimated that the rubies were among the world's oldest. It would take many years before the rubies were mined by the mining company "Greenland Ruby" in collaboration with the Greenland Self-government authorities.

Cartier's Panther and Other Jewels

It would not be a real auction in Copenhagen without Cartier's iconic and highly exclusive jewellery. This time we can present the classic ”Panthère Pompom” for the first time in the history of the auction house. The necklace consists of a tassel-shaped pendant, resembling the head of a panther with faceted emerald eyes and six white gold fringes with numerous brilliant-cut diamonds.

If you are dreaming of a very simple and elegant diamond pendant, then you should take a look at the two very fine examples at this auction. They are of the highest quality – both in terms of size, clarity, cut and colour. The diamonds in the two pendants respectively measure approx. 3.50 ct. and approx. 3.24 ct. and are both certified by GIA.

Art Deco and Belle Époque

If you are more into historical jewellery, then there is a great selection of decorative Art Deco and Belle Époque jewellery from the beginning of the 20th century. Among the highlights is an Art Deco diamond bracelet from approx. 1920-30 and a Belle Époque diamond pendant from approx. 1905.

The auction also includes jewellery from several international jewellers, including Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Chopard, de Grisogono and Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as Danish jewellers such as Georg Jensen, Reeslev and Holmstrup.
