Always Ahead of His Time! The multi-talented artist and surrealist Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen was already ahead of his time as a young man. Proof of this is a modern and unique travelogue – a notebook with original crayon illustrations entitled "Eine Reise nach Dänemark und Zürich" – which was created by the 22-year-old artist in 1931. At the time, Bjerke Petersen had completed an education in both Oslo and Paris, and he was also the only Dane ever to have been a student at the Bauhaus art school in Dessau from 1930 to 1931, where he was taught by the renowned artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. The book up for auction is a sort of collage with the artist's characteristic drawings and black and white photographs of his family. |

Rare Books from the Library at Valdemar’s CastleFrom one travelogue to another. At this auction, you can also dive into a selection of books from the extensive library at Valdemar’s Castle, including books on theology and history, Bibles and legal texts. For instance, you can bid on Jean-Baptiste Du Halde's 18th-century bestseller about China with the title "Description geographique, historique, chronologique, politique, et physique de l'empire de la Chine [...]". The work, beautifully illustrated with 53 maps and plates, had a great influence on European society in the 18th century. |
Food Art on the MenuIn 2015, Michelin chef Wassim Hallal created the impressive cookbook "Frederikshøj" in close collaboration with his friend and artist Michael Kvium. The book contains 100 hand-picked recipes that at some point have been on the menu at the Michelin restaurant Frederikshøj in Aarhus. The book is illustrated with eight lithographic prints by Kvium, who in his iconic style depicts the chef as a figure balancing between genius and madness. The book, which comes in an elegant wooden box on legs, was published in a limited edition of 100 numbered copies and is currently out of stock at the publisher, but you can now get your hands on the book at our auction. |

The Versatile Artist Asger JornNo auction without a contribution from Scandinavia's most influential and internationally recognized modern artist Asger Jorn. His pioneering art did not just unfold on canvases. He was also preoccupied with publishing his own books and communicating his own and others' thoughts on art. The coveted book "Fin de Copenhague", which he created together with the French theorist and activist Guy Debord in 1957, is now up for auction. This copy is signed by both artists, and the book was published in just 200 copies. |
