A large circular mahogany and mahogany polished beechwood dining table from Amalienborg Palace - the official residence of the Danish royal family, five extension leaves of dark polished pinewood, each W. 62 cm. With inventory number from Amalienborg Palace (“A 665”) as well as the crowned burning stamp of Frederik VIII. Late 19th century. H. 77 cm. Diam. 220 cm. Total L. 530 cm.

Provenance: The table is presumably made by royal court cabinetmaker C.B. Hansen, the most reputable Danish carpenter at the time. Originally the table was made for Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg - today the residence of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess - but passed on Frederik VIII's death in 1912 to his daughter Princess Thyra (1880–1945). The princess moved it to her Copenhagen residence in Amaliegade 22, which is the house next to the royal palace. The table was in use here until her death in 1945, it remained here where it has been until recently.

Literature: The table is depicted in Christian Elling's book Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg, p. 67.
