Provenance: Bought at Kunst und Auktionshaus Kastern, Hannover. Bruun Rasmussen auction 441, 1982 no. 139.

Horace Aumont was a porcelain painter at Royal Copenhagen in the early 1860s until he was mortally wounded at Sankelmark in 1864. He exhibited flower paintings 1861–1863 at Charlottenborg.

The well-composed still life is after I. L. Jensen's painting exhibited at Charlottenborg in 1835, either as no. 34 or no. 262. The decoration on the vase shows Thorvaldsen's relief “Warrior on horseback”.
