'Little Boy' was the code word for the atomic bomb dropped by the United States on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. 'Little Boy' was the first of only two atomic bombs ever used in war. The second was 'Fat Man', which was detonated three days later over the city of Nagasaki. 'Little Boy' was 3 meters long, had a diameter of 71 cm and weighed 4000 kg, 64 kg of which was uranium (U-235). It wasn't until 1960 that the US government declassified the use of images of 'Little Boy', which explains the late date on the back of the photograph.
