A Royal Louis XVI garnet and 18k gold pendant, formed as a stylized bow with a faceted drop, all with looped bands and seashells, centring a flower set with rose-cut garnets. Apparently no maker's marks. C. 1800. H. incl. suspension ring 8.5 cm. Later silver-gilt chain enclosed. L. 74 cm. (2).

Provenance: Princess Charlotte Frederikke of Denmark (1784–1840), née Princess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. She was married 1806–1810 to Prince Christian (VIII) of Denmark (1786–1848) and became mother of the later King Frederik VII of Denmark (1808–1863). When Prince Christian (VIII) discovered her relationship with her singing teacher, the composer Edouard du Puy, the couple was seperated in 1809 and divorced in 1810. Princess Charlotte Frederikke was exiled to live at Horsens Mansion, where she had her residence 1810–1829. The father, Benjamin Helsted (b. Copenhagen 1911, d. s.p. 2001), of the present owner of the pendant, wrote the provenance in a document written in Danish, summarized as: “The Princess often lacked money, so she occasionally paid with jewelry. This present jewelry was used as a payment to Miss Reddelien, who had done embroidery work for the Princess in Horsens”. From the seamstress, Miss Reddelien, the pendant went to her relative, Amalie Louise Bull, née Reddelien (1803–1859), married 1825 to Johan Bull (1803–1874). Thence to Benjamin Helsted's maternal grandmother, a relative of Amalie and Johan Bull, namely Louise Bull, née Puggaard (1854–1924), married 1880 to Gustav Ludvig Bull (1853–1927). Thence to Benjamin Helsted's mother, Christel Helsted, née Bull (1883–1964), married 1909 to Poul Helsted (1881–1945). Thence to Christel Helsted's daughter-in-law, Benjamin Helsted's wife, Gudrun Helsted, née Kopp (1924–2022). They were married in 1950. Thence to their daughter, with residence in Denmark, until today. The Bull family came originally from Trøndelag in Norway. Princess Charlotte Frederikke moved 1829 to Rome, where she lived until her death.
