Hanna Mehls (b. Tyskland 1867, d. s.p. 1928)

Hanna Mehls was a German painter of landscapes and still lifes inspired by The Impressionism. Hun she began her career as an artist in her hometown, Berlin, where she was a student of the German painter of landscapes, Paul Flickel (1852–1903). Here after she continued her education in Munich.

From 1896 and untill her death in 1928 she was a member of Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen (The Association of female artist's in Berlin) and also sat on the board for a number of years. She regularly participated in the annual exhibition of the association from 1896 and until her death and her work was exhibited there in 1932 at a memorial exhibition as well. She furthermore exhibited at Grossen Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1893–1925, and in 1904 she was awarded a goldmedal at the World Exhibition in St. Louis, USA.

Mehls' work contains both still lifes and landscapes, the latter being central in her production, in which she leans towards the impressionist tradition. In the work offered on this auction, we see the - for Mehls - very characteristic water reflections here in a view of the Schulsee lake.

Condition

In need of a slight tightening. A few minimal peelings and crackles at edge.
