An iron mounted 17th cent. rapier with a hilt close to A. V. B. Normans type 65 dated 1620–1640. The pommel is long and round, the grip wrapped in braided iron wire, small clam shaped guard and a double-edged c 105,5 cm long blade marked on both sides of the ricasso with an armourers mark: a shield in which a sign looking like a arrow with a crossbar in its centre. Together with the rapier a book “Selected Antique Arms and Armour. The Abildgaard Collection”, Devantier 2009 in which a similar mark is presented on page 95.

Condition

One guard is missing. The blade somewhat spttted and nicked.
