Christine Swane remains true to nature throughout her life. In 1957, she is granted a stay at the artist retreat San Cataldo near Amalfi, where she celebrates her 81st birthday. During the stay, she also works intensely with watercolours and small drawings.

The watercolour here is predominantly kept in the signature green colour, and the view from the balcony appears almost like an arabesque – but without ever completely losing touch with reality.
