Corner is one of Denmark's oldest and most recognized artists' associations, founded in 1932. The association was formed by a group of artists (Karl Bovin, Victor Brockdorff, Povl Christensen, Kaj Ejstrup, Lauritz Hartz, Alfred Simonsen, and Erik Raadal) who wanted to create a community outside the more established art institutions. For a number of years during the war, they exhibited at Den Frie with Høstudstillingen, where they parted ways in 1942, and started their annual exhibition in the winter at Charlottenborg. They took the exhibition building's worst time and turned it into the best, where both members and guest exhibitors presented their works. Throughout its history, Corner has played a central role in introducing new art trends and making room for artistic freedom in Denmark. In 2007, Corner said goodbye to Charlottenborg and hello to Sophienholm.
