An antique Yomut main carpet, Turkmenia, central Asia. Open spacious design with diagonal rows of muliticoloured Kepse güls on a characteristic brownish field, various designs at end skirts. Main carpets was used in the principal seating area of the tribal tent. Collectable example. 19th century. 272×159 cm.
Provenance: Carpet dealer and specialist in Turkoman rugs Hans Elmby, Copenhagen. Purchased from one of his Turkoman exhibitions(1994–1996).
