An original b/w paparazzi photograph of the Duke of Windsor (1894–1972) on the tennis court during a stay in Italy in the summer of 1937. Back with note, photo of news telegram, stamps from Associated Press and The Cleveland News and publication dates (August 1st, 1937, August 9th, 1937). Photo size 24×21 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
The Duke of Windsor - from January to December 1936 known as king of England and emperor of India under the name Edward VIII - was during his youth, then as Prince of Wales, the world's most famous bachelor, a fact caused by his good looks, way of dressing and manners. In the eyes of many men and women the Prince of Wales was seen as an ideal figure. This, however, also meant that he was chased by the international celebrity press wherever he went, which the present image illustrates. This also explains the lack of sharpness.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1937, which shows normal signs of age and handling. Top slightly wavy due to use of adhesive. Back somewhat dirty.
