Rare stereoscopes from von Scholten's home in The Danish Westindies
Collection of more than 80 stereoscope images, incl. five rare images from Bülowsminde, Christiansted, St. Croix in The Danish West Indies, c. 1860s-1870's. Mostly albumen prints or geraltin silver prints, mounted on boards. Various sizes.
The collection is housed in orig. wooden box containing stereoscope viewer.
These rare stereoscope images depict the interior and exterior of the notable Bülowsminde, the former private home of Peter von Scholten and Anne Heegaard. The photographs depict the family of Dr. B. Knudsen and one of the family's black servants with the characteristic headband in the back of the photograph. The photograph is shot in the ball room of Bülowsminde around the 1860s.
Handlingmarks, fading and over all signs of wear to both images and box. Viewer defect.
