Alexander Dmitrievich Romanichev (b. Russkie Gorenki, Simbirskaya 1919, d. St. Petersburg 1989)
“Standing nude model”. 1951. Signed A. Romanichev (in Cyrillic). Oil on canvas. 103×73 cm.
Alexander Dmitrievich Romanichev studied at the Academy of People's Artists of the Russian Federation at the Repin Institute of Arts 1948–1954. His “Standing nude model” is a typical teaching work from this period. On the reverse of the canvas is also a label from the Academy of Arts of the USSR stating that this painting is no. 321 from the Faculty of Oil Painting, fourth course, first term. It furthermore informs that the painting is executed by A. D. Romanichev guided by M. I. Avilov (1882–1954). However, the writer has inadvertently switched the names of the student Alexander Dmitrievich Romanichev and the teacher Mikhail Ivanovich Avilov (1882–1954) on the lines of the pre-printed form.
Alexander Dmitrievich Romanichev was later professor at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.
Minimal peelings plus minor crackles and retouches. The canvas is relined.
