A Southern Europe Renaissance gilt-copper monstrance, top with an arch bishop cross on scrolling foliage with hanging drops, centrally with Jesus Christ holding the Cross and Chalice, standing on a detachable voluted base, middle part with a glass cylinder, flanked by St. Peter and St. Paul next to twin columns, below an angel-mounted and knopped stem chased with ornamentation, domed and oblong cloverleaf shaped base. Early 16th century. H. 57 cm. W. 18 cm. D. (base) 15.5 cm.
Provenance: The collection after pharmacist Steen Oxholt Holt-Hove (1906–1986), Danish assay master 1971–1974. Thence by descent until today.
Wear due to age and use, including marks and scratches, holes, repairs and cracks plus worn gilding. Paul's sword is missing. Mounted loose in base and appears therefore a bit wry. Presumably later glass.
Please note: The item is subject to the Anti-Money Laundering Act. In the event of a hammer price of DKK 50,000 or more, including buyer’s premium, the buyer must submit a copy of a valid photo ID and proof of address in order to collect the item.
