A Kashan pottery star tile, decorated with gold on blue ground, lajvardina type. Iran 13th century. Tile 20×20 cm. Incl frame 25×25 cm.
This eight-pointed tile was decorated using a technique called lajvardina, a term that references lapis lazuli, a deep blue coloured stone containing gold particles. Provenance: Torunn Gulliksen Ihlemann and Jens Thygesen, former owner of Kunsthallen, Copenhagen.
Condition
Has a big repair across the tile. Wear due to age and use.
