A pair of Scottish sterling silver casseroles with handles of turned wood, the top rim engraved “William Mansfield Lord Sandhurst GCIE Governor of Bombay 21st August 1897”, heart-shaped handle mounts engraved with crowned monogram for Princess Alexandra of Wales. William Mansfield 1st Viscount Sandhurst (1855–1921) was a British Liberal politician and colonial governor. He was Governor of Bombay between 1895 and 1900 and Lord Chamberlain of the Household between 1912 and 1921.
According to tradition the casseroles were a present from Princess Alexandra (1844–1925), Queen of England from 1901, to William Mansfield.
