Richard Mortensen played a decisive role in the development of concrete-abstract painting in Denmark. First as a founding member of the artist group linien, later with a strong anchoring in the international concrete movement through his association with Galerie Denise René in Paris from 1947. Through this, both through his own work and his connections, he connected the Danish audience to the international currents he corresponded with. He was also a driving force behind the Klar Form exhibition, which in 1951 exhibited 20 artists from “l'École de Paris” in Denmark, with Richard Mortensen and Robert Jacobsen as the only Danish artists. The work “Fium 'Orbo” is from Richard Mortensen's period in Corsica, which, self-declared, marked an artistic rebirth for the artist. The work is from the series and exhibition “21 dåbsattester”, which pays tribute to Corsican locations that have inspired Mortensen and “reborn” his production.
