The German-born Diederich Schäffer was a court cabinet maker in Danish service. He was one of many artists who in 1730 was called upon to build Christiansborg Palace and was master of the most distinguished Rococo interiors of the time in Copenhagen, including Moltke's Palace at Amalienborg and Frederiksberg Palace. His apartment in Magstræde is preserved and can be seen today at the National Museum. In 1755 he built Schæffergården in Jægersborg, but due to the prestigious construction of the house he went bankrupt and had to sell and move in 1772.
