F. C. Lund (b. Copenhagen 1826, d. s.p. 1901)
“Episode i Forstaden ved Flensborg efter Slaget ved Bau d. 9. April 1848. De to officerer til Hest er Schleppegrell og Helgesen”. An episode in the suburb of Flensburg after the Battle of Bau April 9th 1848. The two officers on horseback are Schleppegrell and Helgesen. Signed and dated F. C. Lund 1884. Oil on canvas. 47×79 cm.
General F.A. Schleppegrell (1792–1850) was killed in the battle of Isted. Colonel Hans Helgesen (1793–1859) was praised highly for his defense of Frederiksstad during the war in 1848–1851.
A later version of the work, dated 1885, was commissioned by the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle (Inv. No. A 262).
