Johann Anderson, German lawyer and geographer, became syndic and then first burgomaster (in 1732) of his native city, Hamburg, and assisted at many important international negotiations, including the Treaty of Utrecht. This is his most important work, published after his death. The appendix contains a brief grammar and vocabulary of the Icelandic language explained in German and Danish.
