Axel Salto (b. Copenhagen 1889, d. Frederiksberg 1961)
“Den levende Sten”/“The living Stone”. A large stoneware wall relief composed by 12 tiles, modelled in respectively fluted and budded style. Decorated with Solfatara glaze. Signed SALTO. Made by Royal Copenhagen. Mounted in a cast iron frame. H. 87 cm. W. 73.5 cm. D. max. approx. 10 cm.
Provenance: Private collection, Denmark. Acquired by the current owner at Royal Copenhagen in October 1990.
