Some Danish silversmiths and goldsmiths, including the royal court jeweler A. Michelsen, were inspired, for example, by royal silver and gold in the royal treasury at Rosenborg Castle. Certain rococo patterns on cutlery and body pieces were therefore called “Rosenborg”. In this particularly case of the present toilet set, A. Michelsen was clearly inspired by “The gold toilet of the Danish queens”, of which most pieces dates back to 1730.

Provenance: Danish private ownership.
