Marie Krøyer (b. Frederiksberg 1867, d. Oslo 1940)
White farm house and a gateway. Unsigned. Dated August 85. Oil on canvas. 20×26 cm.
In the summer 1885 Marie Krøyer rented a room in this white farm house in the village Gederød together with a friend. The painter Harald Slott-Møller and his friend the painter Albert Repholtz stayed nearby, and they all four spent the days together painting out in the open air and the evenings discussing art.
Literature: Tonni Arnold, “Kunsten i Marie Krøyers liv”, 2002, reproduced p. 30 and mentioned p. 31 as follows (in Danish): “Marie's landscape paintings from the summer of 1885 are clearly better than those from 1884. They are more impressionistic in their small light brush strokes. The courtyard gets structure through waving brush strokes, that turn into a shimmering web of colours.”
