Original black-and-white press photograph of revolutionary leader Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara (1928–1967) during the Cuban rebel movement's entry into Havana on January 1, 1959. Back with restriction stamps, cropping instructions in red, remnants of glued-on news telegram, and stamped dates for newspaper publication (October 19, 1967; obituary, October 9, 1968). Oakwood frame with double glass. Visible size 23×16 cm. Frame size 32×25 cm.

The charismatic revolutionary leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara, born in Argentina, was a medical doctor by profession, yet it was in his role as a marxist guerilla soldier that he inserted himself in world history. After Fidel Castro's takeover of power in Cuba on January 1, 1959 Guevara served in numerous functions, including minister of industry, diplomat and head of the Cuban national bank. On October 9, 1967 he was executed in Bolivia.

Condition

This is an original black-and-white press photograph from 1967 or earlier, which has a small crease in the lower left corner, minor surface scratches, and a few pressure marks. Severely yellowed. Back with slight discolouration. Furthermore, normal signs of handling.
