Nicolas (Mykola) Petrovich Gluschenko (b. Novomoskovsk, Ukraine 1901, d. Kiev 1977)

Nicolas (Mykola) Petrovich Gluschenko spent his early years in Donetsk and was educated in Berlin. In 1925–1936 he lived in Paris and painted in Southern France, influenced by the impressionists. It is obvious that the present painting is from this period. Living in France he also joined the Russian artists' exhibitions in Paris. Gluschenko went back to the USSR in 1936 and stayed in Moscow until 1944, when he moved to Kiev spending the rest of his life there.

Provenance: The art collection of a former European general, who was associated with the Russian embassy in Moscow 1970–1989. During the posting, he acquired several artworks, among others the present painting. Thence by descent to his daughter and afterwards to the present owner.
