Anna Ancher seems to have made several studies for the painting; at Bruun Rasmussen auction 1221, 2012 no. 35, a pencil drawing of “Frierens Besøg” (The suitor's visit) from 1924 was sold. At Bruun Rasmussen auction 905, 2021 no. 84, a smaller oil study was sold.

Provenance: Bought by Kunstforeningen (The Danish Art Society) and was disposed of by lottery at Kunstforeningen 1925, here won by doctor Johannes Brandt Jørgensen. Bruun Rasmussen auction 386, 1978 no. 1, ill. p. 9.
