Provenance: The Heiberg family. According to tradition the commode once belonged to the most famous member of the familiy, the author and social critic P.A. Heiberg (1758–1841), who was expelled from Denmark-Norway on Christmas Day 1799 due to his citicism of the government. Heiberg was given 24 hours to observe the order, yet due to illness (bad leg) he was granted permission to postpone his departure until February 1800.
