After losing power to Labour leader Clement Attlee (1883–1967) in the summer of 1945, Winston Churchill spent six years in opposition. However, in October 1951, the Conservative Party regained the majority in the House of Commons, securing Churchill another term as Prime Minister. This ended in 1955 when he handed over power to the somewhat younger Anthony Eden (1897–1977). The photograph on offer shows Winston Churchill standing on the front steps of the manor house Chartwell in Kent, southern England, his and his family's home since 1924.
