Matthew Sleeth (b. 1972)
“Feet #2”, [Tokyo], 2002. Ed. 4/7. C-print, signed, titled, numbered and dated on verso. Framed. 121×147 cm.
The Australian artist Matthew Sleeth creates images that blur the lines between the documentary tradition of photography and more constructed images. His photographs tend to be conceptual and deal with the language of popular culture, advertising, fashion and, especially, design. They seek to challenge the conformities of mass media – finding new ways of pointing out the social, political, and cultural landscape and it’s inhabitants. His photographs are in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Brandts Museum, Odense; National Portrait Gallery, Canberra and many other collections.
Provenance: Galleri Hornbæk.
