Baron Carl and Baroness Julie Juel-Brockdorff were married in 1865. He was the seventh generation at Valdemar's Castle after Niels Juel (1629–1697), lord of the manor 1876–1900 and son of Baron Frederik Carl Vilhelm Niels Adolf Krabbe Juel-Brockdorff,
