This chair is very like a model that the Finnish designer Gunnel Nyman designed in the late 1930s for the manufacturer Boman OY in Finland. Apart from the overall form the distinct front legs are very characteristic and like the ones found on Gunnel Nyman's designs. Gunnel Nyman is primarily known and recoqnized as a glass designer and this could be the explanation for how a chair she could have designed was made in Denmark during the war. Studio Schrader was started by the glass artist Aase Voss Schrader. She had been trained in Germany and made engraved glass in small numbers and of an unusually high artistic value in a Danish context. But this she could hardly live on so she also ran the small gallery Studio Schrader, specializing in works from new artists and handmade pieces from new designers, in addition to this she also regularly contributed with articles on what was happening home and abroad in the world of art and design to magazines such as “ Nyt tidskrift for Kunstindustri”. It seems likely that the gallery owner and glass artist Aase Voss Schrader has been in contact with the glass artist and furniture designer Gunnel Nyman at this time and that Gunnel Nyman has designed for the Gallery.
