Friedrich Koechli (, St. Petersburg 1896-1903)
A set of four Russian Royal shirt buttons in old-Russian style, set with facet-cut garnets, mounted in 18k gold. C. 1900. Apparently no maker's mark. Diam. 1 cm. L. (incl. eyelet) 1.2 cm. In original box from Friedrich Koechli, St. Petersburg. Two later hangers are enclosed, meaning the buttons can be used as double cufflinks. (7).
Provenance: Present from Tsaritsa Maria Feodorovna of Russia to her nephew, Prince Harald of Denmark (1876–1949), a younger brother of Christian X of Denmark. Prince Harald has even noted the name of the dealer and date in the box: “T. Minny 18/10–00”. “T” means Tante, Danish for Aunt. Tante Minny was the nickname in the Royal family for Tsaritsa Maria Feodorovna, and she gave Prince Harald the buttons on October 18 1900.
