An original b/w gelatin silver press photograph of American author Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961) in coversation with Cuban leader Fidel Castro (1926–2016). Back with stamped publication dates (july 2, 1961, August 24, 1967), handwritten layout instructions in blue and red and attached news telegram dated July 3, 1961. Double glazing. Visible size 17.5×24.5 cm. Frame size 28×35 cm.
The photograph depicts the only time Fidel Castro and Ernest Hemingway met. The meeting took place on May 15, 1960 and the occasion was the annual 'The Hemingway International Billfishing Tournament' in the waters off Havana. Castro won the victory trophy that year, which was presented to him by Hemingway. From 1940 and until he died in 1961, Ernest Hemingway owned a house - known as Finca Vigia or Lookout Farm -in the San Francisco de Paula district outside Havana, about 24 km from the capital's center.
This is an original b/w gelatin silver press photograph from 1960/1961. Front and back have yellowed slightly. Surface slightly 'speckled'. Furthermore normal signs of handling.
