Charles Eames (b. 1907, d. 1978)
Ray Eames (b. 1912, d. 1988)
“LCM”. Early lounge chair with steel rod frame. Molded, black lacquered plywood seat and back. Designed 1946. Manufactured approx. 1951–1952 by Herman Miller.
Provenance: Hanne & Poul Kjærholm, hence by descent in the family.
In the early 1950s Hanne and Poul Kjærholm moved from Copenhagen to Rødovre. They had been offered to rent a terraced house in “Carlsro”, designed by Arne Jacobsen a.o., whom Poul had met at Fritz Hansen. The Kjærholms were able to rent the house at a reduced rate by opening and showing their Modernly decorated home to prospective tenants. This afforded the couple to buy Eames' “LCM” lounge chair on a trip to Germany. The photos show this very chair in their living room in Carlsro.
Literature: Poul Erik Tøjner: “Danske Designere Poul Kjærholm”, this very chair ill. and mentioned p. 42.
