Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)
“The Chieftain chair”. An easy chair and matching stool with Hokkaido oak frame. Upholstered in seat, back and on armrests with dark brown leather. Back fitted with buttons. Model FJ 4900 and FJ 4902. Designed 1949. Manufactured and marked by House of Finn Juhl, 2018. The chair and stool are number 1 of 25 numbered specimens of the rare Hokkaido oak - a very slow-growing and valuable wood species from the northern Hokkaido area. Hokkaido oak should preferably be over 100 years old before it is cut and there is therefore no export of new wood today.(2)
“The Chieftain chair” was first presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers 23. Guild exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark the 30th September - 16th October 1949.
