Emma Augusta Løffler (b. Copenhagen 1843, d. Bornholm 1929)

Still life of white and rosa coloured anemones. Signed and dated E. Løffler 1906. Oil on canvas. 49×41.5 cm.

Emma Løffler was the daughter of the painter Carl Løffler and wanted to follow in her father's footsteps as an artist. She became a student of F. F. Helsted and O.D. Ottesen, who trained her in floral painting, one of the few genres in which female artists of her generation could unfold. Løffler debuted at the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg in 1873 and exhibited here 29 times until 1910. She also participated in The Women's Exhibition from the Past and Present (Kvindernes Udstilling fra Fortid og Nutid) in 1895. She mainly painted floral paintings, both well-organised arrangements, forest floor motifs, and wild-growing field flowers, but also landscapes.
