A rare and outstanding Brazilian rosewood desk with profiled edges and armchair, seat upholstered with black Niger leather. Front with two drawers with brass handles. Table top with two tambour doors behind which small shelves, drawers and letter compartments. Table top covered with original patinated black leather. These examples made 1970 as a cabinetmaker's test piece by cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen. Awarded Medal, with label from the Guild. Chair with A.J. Iversen's paper label. H. 73/93 cm. L. 105 cm. D. 80 cm. (2)

Provenance: Acquired directly from cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen 1970 by current owner's mother.

It was customary at the A.J. Iversen workshop that the most elaborate and elegant models were assigned as test pieces for apprentices. These labour intensive pieces would otherwise become so costly that in reality they would never be made. At the same time it was an opportunity for the young apprentice to show his worth. The armchair is a smaller and more narrow variant of a known model. Made to the needs and wishes of the business woman whom it belonged to.
