Rembrandt van Rijn, after, 17th century

The artist's mother seated at a table, looking right: three quarter length (copy in reverse). Inscribed in print Rembrant f. Etching laid on paper. Bartsch 344; Hind 91; BB. Rej-71; Hinterding/Rutgers 91, Copies a (New Hollstein). Plate size 150×115 mm.

Anonymous etching in reverse, possibly by an artist from Rembrandt's workshop (previously attributed to Rembrandt and later to Ferdinand Bol or Karel van der Pluym).

On laid paper with narrow margins. Watermark: Foolscap with seven-pointed collar.

Provenance: Bruun Rasmussen auction 283, 1972 no. 303 (as Rembrandt). Bruun Rasmussen auction 1638, 2016 no. 8605.

Condition

The paper has turned slightly brown.
