Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686–1755) illustrated the fables of La Fontaines (1621–1695) and worked with these motifs repeatedly. In the present painting the tale of the wolf and the lamb, Fontaines fable nr. X is the subject.
The canvas is slightly wavy and needs tightening. Perforation in lower left corner. Two superficial scratches and areas with minor crackles. In need of cleaning.
