Älvdalen porphyry works was in the period 1818–1856 owned by the Swedish royal family. Vases like these was made for use in the royal family and as presents. Among important works from Älvdalen is the Rosendal Palace vase and the sarcophagus of Karl XIV Johan in The Riddarholm Church, Stockholm.
