Johannes Larsen painted for the first time in West Jutland in the spring of 1914, where he stayed at Henne Kirkeby Kro (Inn) and painted and studied the Jutlandic nature and especially the birdlife at Filsø. He was so captivated by the area that he visited and worked there numerous times over the next 30 years.
