Carl Locher (b. Flensburg 1851, d. Skagen 1915)

Two fishermen at Skagen beach, in the background the old seaside hotel. Signed Carl Locher. Oil on canvas. 41×56 cm.

Skagen seaside hotel was built at the end of the 19th century in the so-called Norwegian dragon style. The hotel was impressive and the location unbeatable. The place attracted wealthy guests from home and abroad. In 1938, one of the wings burned down and during the Second World War the rest burned down, presumably due to an overheated stove.
