By the end of the 1960s, 21 Swiss watchmaking companies were hard at work developing an ultra-precise, serially producible quartz movement. They came to be known as the now mythical Beta 21. All companies had their own names for the movement - Omega's was Calibre 1300. The total production of Beta 21's throughout all the participating companies was approximately 6,000 units. The Beta 21 movement can be found in watches such as the Patek Philippe ref. 3597 and the Rolex ref. 5100.
