In connection with the renovation of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 2006–2007, the Danish government was given the opportunity to showcase Danish design in the museum’s exhibition spaces. For this purpose, furniture by Poul Kjærholm was selected. MoMA commissioned 40 examples of Kjærholm’s iconic PK80 daybed, produced by Fritz Hansen. However, the museum requested that the daybed be raised by 10 cm compared to the original model. Hanne Kjærholm granted a special permission allowing Fritz Hansen to produce these 40 pieces in the adjusted height. Subsequently, it turned out that MoMA only required 35 of the daybeds. The remaining five were therefore offered for sale. The present daybed is one of these five rare examples.
